Pocket Casts v7.89 is rolling out now on the app stores. This version contains recommendations - creator-driven recommendations using Podcasting 2.0’s “podroll” feature, as well as algorithmic recommendations for all podcasts. Here’s what our daily podcast looks like - “podroll” is supported by podcast hosts like Transistor, Buzzsprout and RSS
.com. - May 12: The next version of Pocket Casts, currently in release candidate, has new podcast recommendations - including support for the
podcast:podroll
format. Marked as “Recommended shows by the creator”, it means creator recommendations go to the top of a new section marked “Similar shows”. “Podroll” is supported by hosts including Buzzsprout, RSS.com, Blubrry, and Transistor. - May 2: Transistor has joined the list of companies who regularly publish monthly podcast app statistics. Transistor’s stats say that Apple Podcasts is #1 for downloads at 40.5%. It’s a similar number to Buzzsprout’s monthly stats (at 37.7%). Libsyn’s stats, released in a podcast but reported here, show a higher number at 47.6%; Blubrry’s stats are even higher, at 52.5%. The Podnews Weekly Review has 31.2% downloads from Apple.
- Apr 16: Independent podcast app Pocket Casts now, it seems, supports the
podcast:funding
feature in the new podcast namespace. It allows podcasters to link directly to pages that will help them earn money. The feature is supported by a large variety of podcast hosting companies, including Buzzsprout, Blubrry, Captivate, RSS.com, Transistor and many others. (Podnews podcast pages also support it).
